Position: Agricultural Engineer

Position Duties

The Agricultural Engineer serves as technical lead for the production team that is responsible for all greenhouse operations. The role involves substantial work implementing, calibrating, overseeing, and maintaining a variety of complex agricultural engineering systems, including the Priva Integro 730 greenhouse control system. Utilize knowledge of greenhouse climate control systems to optimize growing conditions and ensure crop quality. Oversee all technical aspects of climate regulation. Regularly maintain and calibrate equipment to control temperature, light intensity, humidity, and CO2 concentration. Leverage expert knowledge of the complex biological processes occurring in the greenhouse throughout the year to understand how these processes affect crop pest control efforts. Oversee and implement the Integrated Pest Management program in all Bushel Boy ranges to mitigate spoilage of tomato crops, including the development of a spraying program and biological applications. Ensure company compliance with all applicable government regulations in the application of sound IPM practices. Oversee greenhouse labor planning, including determining crop quality norms and quality controls and developing and implementing training for greenhouse workers. Maintain and calibrate irrigation equipment and related machinery. Conduct weekly crop recording and maintain and review cultural information for crops, assess reports against desired outcomes, and plan and implement programs to ensure on-track production. Develop crop rotation and sowing schedules. Utilize a variety of tools and technologies, including: Priva Integro 730 system, irrigation equipment, EC meters, and pH meters. Job titles of subordinates include: Integrated Pest Management Crew Leader (1); Pack House Manager (1); Crew Leaders (5); Integration Pest Management Bio-Scouts (4); Greenhouse Crop Workers (60).

 

Position Requirements

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Agricultural Engineering, Horticulture, Agricultural Business, or closely-related field of study, and at least 5 years of post-Bachelor’s degree agricultural production experience managing greenhouse climates, preventing pest and disease damage to crops, monitoring EC and pH levels of water, and operating Priva and/or Hoogendoorn crop management systems. All experience may be gained concurrently.

 

Rate of Pay

$91,624.00+ per Year
The employer will pay or exceed the prevailing wage, as determined by the U.S. Department of Labor.
